Health Sciences Applied to the Locomotor System is a post-graduation program at the master and doctorate levels offered to students with interest in research on different areas of the musculoskeletal system and its diseases. Specialists of different health professions such as orthopedic surgery, rheumatology, anesthesiology, pain specialist, radiology, pathology, physiatry, neurology, physical and occupational therapy are accepted, as well as other professionals such as physicists, engineers and specialists in computer sciences or biomedical informatics. The objective of the Program is to form high quality human resources to act in the fields of education and research, as well as in scientific and technological development.

The Program belongs to the Ribeirão Preto Medical School at Ribeirão Preto Campus of University of São Paulo. Ribeirão Preto is a medium size city (~700,000 inhabitants) located approximately 320 km (200 miles) north from São Paulo city, to which it is linked by excellent roads and other transportation means.

The Program complies with specific rules of the University (see Regimento de Pós-graduação da USP) and is directed according to its own regulations and norms (see Regulamento do Programa de Pós-graduação em Ciências da Saúde Aplicadas ao Aparelho Locomotor). The accepted students must attend postgraduate disciplines offered by the own institution and are expected to develop an original research work aiming the publication of original results in an international journal with a high impact factor. Each student will be assigned an advisor for the entire length of the course, the duration of which ranges from two to five years, according to post graduation level and project complexity. The advisor usually is an expert in the field of interest of the student and an intense interaction between student and advisor is expected.
